Hunting And Fishing Is A Way Of Life For Some People

Author: Mike Selvon

Hunting and fishing is the way many people survive in this
world. Rather than going to the local supermarket, many people
rely on hunting and fishing to supply them with meat and other
nutrients for their bodies.

While some people grew up in families where hunting and fishing
was used to supply food for the table, others have found it to
be a rewarding experience later in life. Hunting and fishing are
also activities that many people choose for recreational
purposes.

Deer hunting is the most popular type of hunting in North
America. The white tail deer continues to be a great catch, but
its challenges often make it nearly impossible to capture. Its
wilderness survival far surpasses other deer species because of
its extra keen sense of smell as well as sight and sound.

Hunting and fishing is not only a challenge for many people, it
gives them a chance to relax and something to focus on besides
the usual grind of work and everyday life. Hunting and fishing
can be like a vacation in the middle of a weekend or for a few
hours after work. It can also give you a chance to be with
friends and family who are just as busy as you are.

One challenge that hunting and fishing also provides is the
quest for a trophy sized animal or fish. This is one goal that
any sportsman secretly, or not so secretly, longs for. Most
beginners are glad to catch or take fish or game of any size,
but as experience kicks in, the desire to catch something worthy
of hanging on the wall intensifies.

No Fire Arms for under 18 year olds.
The Firearm Control Act is not about to be amended to allow 18-year-olds to legally own weapons, safety and security ministry spokesperson Trevor Bloem said on Thursday.

He was reacting to a Freedom Front Plus call for the Firearms Act to be amended to allow 18 to 21-year-olds to qualify for a valid firearms licence.

This followed Monday's coming into effect of sections of the Children's Act that, among other things, reduces the age of majority from 21 to 18 years.

The Firearms Control Act stipulates that only persons who are 21 years or older may apply for a competence certificate.
SOUTH AFRICA'S Nuclear Waste programme not out of control.
There are no major safety concerns about nuclear waste management in South Africa, the National Nuclear Regulator (NNR) said in Cape Town on Wednesday.

NNR Nuclear Technology and waste programme manager Thiagan Pather was speaking at a public participation forum.

The forum was part of a workshop on radioactive waste management. Pather said the only problem he was concerned about, when it came to nuclear waste management, was the inadequate tracking of nuclear sources. Sources constitute small devices that contain radioactive material.

"What we've had is one or two instances where these sources have ended up for example in a scrapyard where you do not know who the owner is," he said.

Pather said this could only happen when someone had "lost control" of a source tracking process.

He said the NNR needed to liaise with government departments to refine their tracking system for sources
Living free at Lionsrock
A once infamous canned-lion breeding farm has been revamped to serve as a sanctuary for predators bred in captivity. Camorhi Game Lodge, at one time a venue of choice for the canned-lion hunting industry, has been renamed Lionsrock and will be the new home of hundreds of lions scheduled to be put down.
Researchers track SA's biltong hunters
Researchers at the North West University have compiled a profile on biltong hunters in a study of the economic impact of biltong hunting in South Africa. About 200 000 hunters set off each year with biltong as their target, which is far greater than the number of trophy hunters who visit the country.
